Code of Conduct

1. Respect & Inclusion

  • Treat all dancers, teachers, and staff with kindness and respect.
  • Everyone, regardless of background, gender, sexuality, age, or ability, is welcome.
  • We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or exclusionary behavior.
  • Support each other’s growth; celebrate progress and approach mistakes with patience and empathy.

2. Safety & Consent

  • West Coast Swing sometimes involves close physical connection. Always ask before you dance and respect a “no”, no explanation is needed.
  • Be mindful of your partner’s comfort. Adjust your connection, styling, or energy when needed.
  • Physical touch should always be appropriate, consensual, and dance-related.
  • If you ever feel uncomfortable, talk to a teacher, staff member or Care team member.

3. Dance Floor Etiquette

  • Social dance spaces are shared; be aware of your surroundings and protect your partner and others from collisions.
  • Keep the atmosphere respectful, and inclusive.
  • Avoid offering unsolicited feedback during social dances.
  • Practice good personal hygiene and wear clean, appropriate dance shoes and clothing.

 

4. Learning Environment

  • Arrive on time and ready to learn.
  • Listen actively to your instructors and to each other.
  • Embrace both structure and play; technique and fun go hand in hand.
  • Give yourself and others permission to make mistakes; they are part of the learning journey.


5. Community Conduct

  • We aim to create a culture of encouragement, not competition.
  • Support others in feeling welcome, especially newcomers.
  • Keep discussions and online communication kind and constructive.
  • Avoid gossip or negativity that may harm the community spirit.

6. Professionalism & Responsibility

  • Teachers and assistants are held to high standards of integrity, care, and consistency.
  • Students are expected to uphold the same level of respect toward instructors and each other.
  • Any form of misconduct may result in a private conversation, a warning, or removal from classes or events, depending on the situation.
